The contemporary art and design section of the third Biennale of Natural Dyes, titled Colors of Nations, made its debut at the Fashion Pavilion of the China National Silk Museum in Hangzhou on Nov 15.
The contemporary design art exhibition features more than 100 selected works by over 80 artists from nearly 10 countries, including China, the United States, India, Germany, Mexico, and Japan.
Adhering to the principle of deriving dyes from nature, the artworks encompass diverse forms of artistic expression, including independent creativity and the restoration of ancient works. The exhibition serves as a vibrant tapestry of art, exploring the innovative use of natural dyes in the context of ethnic colors.
Departing from traditional notions of ethnic colors, the exhibited works transcend boundaries. They represent a contemporary artistic stance and conceptual framework established in the interplay between tradition and modernity, introducing new identities and languages for ethnic colors through artistry and craft innovation.
