The 5th China College Students' "Internet Plus" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition was officially launched in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, according to a news conference held on June 13.

Comprised of one major event and six supplementary activities, the competition aims to cultivate talents for the development of digital economy and other pillar industries in Zhejiang.

As of June 10, over 3.3 million college students with 770,000 projects had signed on to participate in this year's event.

"We have invited teams of international students from 100 countries and regions with the purpose of creating an exchange platform for innovation and entrepreneurship among students," said Wu Yan, head of the higher education department of the Ministry of Education.

He added that China's experience and solutions in innovation and entrepreneurship will be highlighted during the event to enhance the international influence of Chinese higher education.

Initiated in 2015, the competition has attracted a total of 4.9 million college students from 51 countries and regions across the world, who designed a large number of high-technology projects with great market potential.

The national finals of this year's competition will be held in October at Zhejiang University.
