Hangzhou's "City Brain" system is developing rapidly as another nine application scenarios are now being implemented for the convenience of local residents, according to a conference held on July 10.

The "City Brain", initiated in Hangzhou by Alibaba Group's cloud computing arm Alibaba Cloud in 2017, is a cloud-powered and artificial intelligence-driven urban traffic management system that aims to boost the city's overall efficiency.

After over two years of testing in Alibaba's home base, the operation of the system has now expanded from transportation management to parking, medical treatment, housing, tourism, public security and market regulation.

With the upgraded system, car owners can now pay after they leave the parking lot as long as they bind the payment methods with their vehicles. The system has been implemented at over 260,000 parking spaces in Hangzhou.

By constantly improving infrastructure, the "City Brain" system will continue to introduce new application scenarios for the public, said a Hangzhou government official, adding that a total of 11 systems and 48 application scenarios are now under construction.
