When one devotes all his or her youth to a passion, what kind of stories will they have to tell? Shi Yungang, former member of the National Sanda Team, 2008 Beijing Olympic Games torchbearer, and now principal of the Hangzhou Zhongtai Martial Arts School, can perhaps provide an answer.

Shi has had a wealth of life-changing experiences, but his spirit of sportsmanship has persevered though all of them.

His son, Shi Jinming, a sanda (Chinese kickboxing) athlete and champion of the 60-kg division in the 2021 Zhejiang Sanda Championship, has been inspired by his father.

The junior Shi regards his father as not just a parent, but a beacon of hope to help him realize the "spirit of martial arts".

"I want to be a great athlete like my dad," Shi said.
