The GDP of Binjiang district in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, expanded from 48.8 billion yuan ($6.82 billion) in 2012 to 202.26 billion yuan in 2021, with its per capita GDP exceeding $50,000, ranking top among districts in Zhejiang, said Zhang Dengfeng, the top official of Binjiang at a briefing recounting the district's achievements made over the last decade on Sept 20.
With 10 years of development, Binjiang generates 2.8 percent of Zhejiang's GDP with less than one thousandth of the province's areas, according to Zhang.
The expenditure in research and development in Binjiang has now accounts for about 10 percent of the district's annual GDP, the highest percentage in Zhejiang.
Twenty-nine firms from Binjiang were included in the top 100 Zhejiang firms for innovation, accounting for nearly one third of the province.
Over the past decade, Binjiang has built five metro lines and a number of new landmarks such as the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center. It is working on building future-oriented communities, reshaping what new-style neighborhoods are expected to be like in the future.
Zhang pointed four directions in which Binjiang is pinned hope to go. He said that the district will walk onto a path towards stronger digital economy and strive to be a world-class industrial cluster in digital security and protection.
