Hangzhou held a citywide skills competition targeting volunteers for people with disabilities on July 13, celebrating the 100-day countdown to the Hangzhou Asian Para Games.

After preliminary selections, a total of 29 participants made it to the finals.

During the competition, the contestants took the stage one by one and showcased their ability to assist people with disabilities through personal introductions, knowledge Q&A, and simulations of real-life scenarios.

The competition included tasks such as guiding visually-impaired individuals, wheelchair handling techniques, communication etiquette, psychological counseling, common sign language, general knowledge of accessibility, and knowledge of the Hangzhou Asian Para Games.

The contestants responded with composure, demonstrating their solid theoretical knowledge, sincere service etiquette, and excellent skills in assisting people with disabilities.

Gu Yajuan, director of the Training Department of Hangzhou Volunteer Association, praised the performances of the participants and provided guidance and evaluations in terms of skills, posture, and etiquette.

"Volunteer services are significant part of the initiative to enhance the city's image during the Hangzhou Asian Games and Asian Para Games," Gu said.

The event aimed to showcase the positive image and skills of volunteer workers in assisting people with disabilities. It also served as a testing ground for volunteer services during the upcoming Games, setting the stage for a splendid combination of volunteer services and disabled assistance, adding a vibrant touch to the landscape of the city's volunteer services for the Hangzhou Asian Games.
