Jin Jiahong launched an exhibition of her Hangzhou embroidery works at the Hangzhou Arts and Crafts Museum on Jan 19.
The exhibition consists of three parts and showcases ancient embroidery masterpieces, Hangzhou Embroidery craftsmanship, and over 110 exquisite embroidery works created by Jin and her students over the years.
For 40 years, Jin has dedicated herself to the collection, research, creation, and preservation of traditional Hangzhou embroidery techniques, trying to blend traditional needlework with modern creativity.
One of the highlights of the exhibition is Hidden Realm of Lotus Flowers, created using the lost needle technique of Hangzhou Embroidery known as One Golden Thread, which involves embroidering with only one thread for the entire composition.
Jin said she already had experience with several small pieces before creating Hidden Realm of Lotus Flowers, which took her a year to design and three years to embroider.
Discussing her approach to creating Colorful Pottery King, crafted using hemp rope, Jin said, "There are many types of embroidery, but different materials and processing methods can significantly change the presentation of the work. My initial intention was to enhance the decorative aspect, aligning more with modern aesthetics and making it appeal to more young people."
Exhibition Duration: Dec 29, 2023, to May 23, 2024
