The Hangzhou International Sports Center, a significant project in the city's new CBD Future Sci-Tech Town, has recently resumed construction.

Currently, there are currently 100 personnel on-site at the center, with plans to return to full capacity after the Lantern Festival on Feb 24.

Spanning an area of approximately 260,000 square meters, the center will include a professional football stadium seating 60,000 people, a multipurpose sports arena seating 18,000 people, and a swimming and diving center seating 3,000 people, with an underground area of about 196,000 sq m.

It will be the only professional football stadium with a capacity of 60,000 in the province and the only one in the country with underground facilities.

Drawing inspiration from local culture, the design of the complex incorporates elements such as jade and tea fields, adding cultural depth to the world-facing sports venue.

Construction on the football stadium section began last October. Before the Spring Festival, the non-subway zone completed pile foundation work, with about 3,300 piles installed. Currently, construction is underway on retaining pile foundations in the subway zone, with which is more than 30 percent complete.

"The project is expected to be completed by early 2027. With an investment of 9.58 billion yuan ($1.33 billion), it will serve as a high-standard sports center and fully-equipped fitness center, meeting the demands of residents and greatly enriching their cultural life," said project site manager Zhu Jingtao.
