The China Railway Group Shanghai Co has said the Yangtze River Delta is expected to see over 27 million passengers during the upcoming May Day holiday, with a daily average of more than 3.4 million people, potentially marking the highest daily passenger flow ever during a holiday period.

The holiday transportation period will run from April 29 to May 6.

The company said that the peak passenger flow is predicted to occur on May 1, potentially surpassing the single-day passenger record set during this year's Qingming Festival (April 4) on the Yangtze River Delta railway, when there were over 3.7 million passengers. There will also be a surge in passenger traffic from various locations in the Yangtze River Delta to Beijing, Guangzhou, Fuzhou, Xiamen, Changsha, and Qingdao.

In response to the significant increase in passenger flow during the holiday, the Yangtze River Delta railway departments have coordinated capacity arrangements forming a basic operating schedule, temporary train schedule, and emergency plans.
