Hangzhou's Yuhang district recently celebrated the opening of the Shen Kuo Smart Education Observatory, paying homage to the renowned scientist Shen Kuo from the Song Dynasty (960-1279).

Located in Baizhang town, the observatory, spanning 30 square meters, stands as China's first intelligent public science education base. It boasts six major capabilities, including radio teaching and satellite imagery reception, all housed within three retractable container units.

The brainchild of a team of Hangzhou programmers, the observatory aims to revolutionize astronomical education. It was inspired by the team's volunteer teaching experiences and fueled by their passion for aerospace.

Since its launch in May 2023, the observatory has not only served the local community but also provided advanced astronomy education to students nationwide. With its innovative approach, children can now explore the cosmos on their won, capturing stellar images and engaging with digital avatars as instructors.
