New university to be established in Hangzhou

The Ministry of Education announced a public notice on May 15 regarding the establishment of a new undergraduate university, Zhejiang University of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province.

The notice will be open for public comment from May 15 to 21.

The new university's predecessor is the Zhejiang Institute of Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, a top-tier institution included on China's high-level vocational school list.

Established in 1952 as Hangzhou Workers' Technical School, it became Zhejiang Mechanical Industry School in 1975 and was formally named the Zhejiang Institute of Mechanical & Electrical Engineering in 2002.

Located in the historic and culturally rich city of Hangzhou, the school has two campuses: one in Hangzhou's Binjiang district and the other in neighboring city Jiaxing's Haining.

The institution comprises 11 secondary schools and offers 28 majors, including mechanical manufacturing and automation, mechatronics technology, electrical automation technology, and IoT application technology.
