Residents and tourists in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, shield themselves from the scorching sun on July 22. The Hangzhou meteorological observatory issued a red alert for high temperatures on the day, with the maximum temperature in some areas reaching 40.4 C, making it the hottest day since the beginning of summer this year.
