Data reveals major Chinese tourist sources to Olympics

During the Paris Olympics the number of tourists traveling between China and France has experienced a giant surge.

More Chinese tourists travel to France during the Olympics.

Bookings from the Chinese mainland to Paris have soared by 114 percent year-on-year, data from Ctrip, a Chinese travel service provider.

By the number of tourists traveling to France, the top 10 mainland cities are Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Nanjing, Suzhou, Chongqing, and Wuhan, according to Ctrip.

In terms of age among Chinese tourists, people born in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s account for 21 percent, 37 percent, 29 percent and 8 percent respectively.

An army of tourists have also boosted ticket sales to scenic spots across Paris.

Data showed that during the Olympics, bookings of Seine River tour boats skyrocketed by 209 percent year-on-year. Bookings to the Eiffel Tower, Palace of Versailles, Louvre Museum, and Musée d'Orsay surged by 163 percent, 108 percent, 342 percent, and 281 percent respectively.

With mid-July to late August being French holiday season, a host of French have chosen to travel to China on vacation, driving domestic tourism growth.

Bookings by Parisians to the Chinese mainland increased by 72 percent over the previous year. Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Xiamen, Chengdu, Wenzhou, Wuhan, Nanjing, Shenzhen and Kunming are among popular destinations for French trips.

The age groups of French tourists are mainly those born in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2010s, accounting for 28 percent, 20 percent, 16 percent, and 14 percent, respectively, according to data.
