The Tsinghua University State Key Laboratory of Membrane Biology opened a new division in Hangzhou's Qingshan Lake Sci-Tech City on Aug 6. This division aims to support membrane biology research and accelerate the transformation of scientific discoveries into practical applications.

The membrane lab, known for its cutting-edge research on cell membranes, plays a critical role in drug development, with 70 percent of known drug targets being membrane proteins. The new division will focus on building a domestic biological structure database and advancing AI research to support life sciences and pharmaceutical innovation.

Hangzhou's strong computing infrastructure and advanced facilities make it an ideal location for the lab's expansion. This collaboration is expected to drive significant advances in China's life sciences research and benefit the biomedical industry.
