Hong Kong youth delegation embarks on study tour in Hangzhou to foster exchanges

Chief Secretary for the Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chan Kwok-ki led a youth delegation to visit Hangzhou from Aug 11 to 15, as part of a study tour under the Strive and Rise Programme.

The Strive and Rise Programme is a major youth development initiative implemented by the Hong Kong government, sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, and co-organized by the Hong Kong Children & Youth Services. The program aims to broaden students' horizons, boost self-confidence and foster a positive outlook on life through various activities.

The delegation consists of 84 young participants and five mentors. Vivian Kong Man-wai, the women's fencing champion at the Paris Olympics, also took part.

During their visit, the delegation toured 15 locations in Hangzhou, including West Lake Scenic Area, the National Silk Museum, Geely Group, and the China Academy of Art. From historical and cultural landmarks to enterprises and universities, the youngsters gained insights into the rapid development and remarkable achievements of Hangzhou and the nation.

Chan encouraged them to learn the "strive-and-rise" and "never-give-up" spirit of Hong Kong athletes, uphold positive thinking, and endeavor to achieve their goals. He said that the Hong Kong government is actively promoting patriotic education and hopes to see more Hong Kong youth visit Hangzhou.
