Renowned oil painter Ma Yuru launched his debut solo exhibition at the China Academy of Art Museum in Hangzhou on Aug 15.
Organized by the Zhejiang Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the China Academy of Art, the exhibition is part of the National Artwork Collection and Donation Incentive Program of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
As a first-generation oil painter and art educator of modern China, Ma, 93, is known for his noble character and lifelong dedication to the cause of oil painting education in China, leaving a lasting impact on generations to come.
Ma was taught by renowned artists such as Ni Yide, Su Tianci, Hu Shanyu, and Guan Liangzhu in his early years. His style emphasizes a strong foundation in drawing, vibrant oil colors, capturing contemporary life, and drawing from poetic traditional influences.
The exhibition showcases a total of 123 oil paintings and watercolor works, complemented by sketches, manuscripts, documents, and video materials. It will run until Sept 15, offering visitors deep insight into Ma's artistic and educational legacy.
