Hangzhou celebrates first anniversary of Asian Games with historic donation

To mark the first anniversary of the Hangzhou Asian Games, the Samaranch Foundation and Hangzhou sports bureau hosted a celebratory event at the Hangzhou Asian Games Museum on Aug 31, highlighting the legacy of the Games and promoting Olympic spirit and culture.

During the event, Li Lingwei, IOC executive board member and vice-president of the Chinese Olympic Committee, donated her 1986 Asian Games registration card to the museum. Li emphasized how the card symbolizes the evolution of sports and society in China, reflecting the progress made in the international sports arena.

Hangzhou Deputy Mayor Chen Weiqiang discussed the legacy of the Games, noting the city's renewed focus on sports and healthy living. He also announced plans to establish an Asian Games brand promotion association to manage and promote the Games' intellectual property, while at the same time enhancing Hangzhou's global influence.

Asian Games champions Jiang Yulu and Kong Qiaoli also shared their personal stories, adding a human touch to the celebration and shedding light on the Games' impact.
