The second West Lake Longjing tea skills competition recently took place in Hangzhou, featuring young tea artisans.
This summer, 14 local tea businesses and master studios hosted public training sessions, attracting 190 participants eager to learn Longjing tea frying techniques. Following the training, 35 were selected to compete, and while most were around 40 years-old, the youngest was under 20.
Tea leaves being fried at the event released the signature fragrance of Longjing tea. Tea veteran Sun Qi was very happy to see so many young people passionate about preserving this tradition.
With government support and community involvement, West Lake continues to nurture new tea-making talent. As autumn arrives, visitors can enjoy the scent of Longjing tea mixed with osmanthus blossoms from nearby villages.
