During the 2024 AIPPI World Congress on Oct 20, an IP chiefs luncheon brought together global leaders in intellectual property to discuss new opportunities in the field while enjoying a blend of Chinese and Western cuisine.

Dishes like Kung Pao shrimp and lemon grilled fish impressed the guests just as much as the discussions on IP advancements.

European Patent Office President Antonio Campinos shared that patent applications reached a record 199,000 in 2023, thanks in part to the growing number of Chinese filings in Europe. Similarly, Lisa Jorgenson, deputy director general of the World Intellectual Property Organization, highlighted China's rising influence, noting that it now accounts for over a quarter of all international PCT patent filings.

AI's role in IP protection was another hot topic, with experts from Japan and the United States discussing their nations' efforts to streamline patent review using AI technologies.

The luncheon, marked by collaboration and future partnerships, emphasized how intellectual property remains vital to global innovation. Guests, including lawyers and IP professionals, shared ideas while savoring a cross-cultural culinary experience.
